Meerut: Once upon a time, as they say in Cairana, two main political clans, Hasan and Singh, belonging to one family under one Khap.
It was around 120 years ago.
One of the ancestors then turned towards Islam and competition began.
This continues to this day.
When BJP released his first list for polls with the name 107 candidates, he chose Mriganka Singh, the daughter of the late MP law of Singh, as a candidate from Kairana.
In the SP list of the same constituency is Nahid Hasan, MLA sitting.
During a century ago, Singh and Hasans were United, part of a family led by Baba Kalsa, until an ancestor branched out after being converted to Islam.
According to Suhaib Ansari, an ancient resident of Cairana, “The two families belonged to Kalshyan Khap from the Gujjar community, spread across 84 villages.
Until a few years ago, the law of Singh was considered the leader of the Hindu group, while Munawwar Hasan, Nahid’s father, led the Muslim wing .
“Since the early 1990s, Cairana has sent representatives from these two families to the State Assembly and Lok Sabha.
For decades, both clans change their political loyalty at various points of time.
But it’s always Singh versus Hasan.
Now after Singh and Munawwar Hasan’s law is dead, old political competition between the two families has moved to the next generation.
Son Munawwar Hasan Nahid defeated the legal daughter of Singh Mriganka in the 2017 state poll The cycle was rather damaged in 2019, when the polling Lok Sabha BJP brought “outsiders”, Pradeep Chaudhary, who finally defeated Tabassum Hasan.
Now, Mriganka is pitted once again against Scion Hasan.
“I thank the party that it has recognized my father’s hard work.
I will continue his inheritance, given the chance by voters,” said Mriganka.
In a dramatic turn on Saturday, Nahid Hasan was arrested and sent to Judicial custody when he headed to the session court in Cairana to “surrender” in a delayed case from February 2021.
He had avoided arrest since he, along with his mother and 40 other supporters , Pre-ordered with the provisions of the Gangster Law.
An unsparless warrant has been published against them all.
In the past five years, several cases slapped their families, while many older ones have been reopened by local governments.
The two families have dominated the Cairana political landscape for more than four decades.
Singh’s law wins from this assembly chair seven times and is a cabinet minister in the BJP government led by Kalyan Singh and Rajnath Singh.
He was also a Sabha MP from this constituency in 2014.
Munawwar Hasan, meanwhile, was chosen from Cairana twice and was the two terms of Lok Sabha MP.
He has been a member of Rajya Sabha and once.
The big question in Kairana now is: Who will trigger a cassette this time? Hasan or Singh?
