Hyderabad: Single covaxin dose may be enough to protect those who have been infected by Covid-19 before taking a shot, a study conducted by the Indian Medical Research Council (ICMR) has been found.
This study was conducted in 114 health professionals and frontline workers who received Covaxin from February to May 2021, found that those infected with Covid-19 and took a covaxin dose showed a similar immune response as a participant in the Covid-19 infection that received two doses of vaccines .
“Our initial data shows that the single dose of humoral immunity BBV152 in the previously infected individual is equivalent to two doses of vaccines in naive infection individuals,” said the study published in the Journal of Medical Research (IJMR) of India.
The ICMR researchers showed that “participants with the previous SARS-COV-2 infection, after a dose of one vaccine (BBV152) which gave rise to the levels of IgG (N) and IgG antibodies along with the level of response to the inhibition of nab binder similar to the naive vaccinated infection has taken two doses of vaccines “.
According to ICMR, the findings of this study, titled ‘antibody response to the BBV152 vaccine in individuals who were previously infected with SARS-COV-2: pilot study’, offering evidence in supporting vaccine strategies that are oriented to public health and immunized which can include one regimen Dosage for those who have been infected by Covid-19.
However, he said these findings need to be confirmed with a large-sized cohort study.
“If our initial findings are confirmed in a large population study, a single dose of the BBV152 vaccine can be recommended for people infected with SARS-COV-2 previously confirmed so that naive individuals can benefit greater than a limited vaccine supply,” said ICMR.
ICMR, however, adds that both vaccine doses will be ideal even for individuals who have been infected in the long run due to the variant of concern
