Religious: The city of Sutra has turned into the main transit point for marijuana with the consignment is illegally transported to various parts of the state and outside of here.
In the past five days, Deuth the Excise Ministry here seized around 1600kg of smuggled from the city.
In the last haul, around 1100kg of marijuana worth RS 55 Lakh was confiscated from the house of less construction near Ankuli on Saturday.
Utham Singh from Adava in the Gajapati District was arrested for allegedly storing contraband goods at home.
Excise officials suspect people accused of getting marijuana from gajapati and transport them to other countries from here.
“Investigations are underway to find out the purpose and place of marijuana procurement,” said Excise (Ganjam) (Ganjam).
Previously on January 11, Detective has confiscated around 500kg of marijuana worth Rs 25 Lakh from the first gate in the city.
It was reported illegally transported from the Gajapati District to Bihar when the vehicle taught him intercepted.
“The mix is widely used to peddle narcotics because this city has good communication facilities, including bus and train services,” said Bhotra.
These sources say marijuana vendors from growing districts such as Kandhamal, Gajapati, Rayaganada and Malkangiri provide contraband goods to be smuggled.
