VIUDHUNAGAR: A man died and two others suffered serious burns in a fire accident in the Cracker unit near Amathur in the Virudhunagar district on Saturday night.
The accident occurred in Bommi’s fireworks at Ammankoilpatti at around 7:30 p.m., the police said Amathur.
The deceased has been identified as D Arumugam, 52, from O Sankaralingapuram Village.
His body was taken to the Medical College Virudhunagar Hospital for Postmortem.
The injury – Gubendran, 38, Ammankoilpatti, and K Deivendran, 33, from Sivakasi – rushed to a government hospital in Sivakasi.
Gubendran, who suffered 100% burns, then called the Rajaji government hospital in Madurai.
“Initial investigations show that workers burned the remaining waste such as axis and chemicals about 50 meters from the factory when the accident took place,” District K firefighters K Ganesan, who visited TOI.
The fire tender from the Virudhunagar firefighting stations rushed to place in 20 minutes after the accident and delayed the flame.
