1 killed, 4 injured after they jump off train

LUCKNOW: A man in his mid-30s came under the wheels of Andhra Pradesh superfast express train, while four others — including his two siblings — were injured after they allegedly jumped off the running train in Jhansi on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
The incident took place at around 12:30am, a km away from Jhansi railway station towards Delhi end.
The deceased — identified as Ajay Kumar (33), father of two children — hailed from Deokali village of Gagaha police limits in Gorakhpur district.
He was heading to Rajahmundry (Andhra Pradesh) along with his younger siblings Vijay Kumar and Sanjay and cousin Sandeep Kumar and with uncle Jaghmohan.
Vijay is said to be in coma with grievous injury and a lot of blood loss, while the rest have suffered minor injuries including fracture.
Speaking to TOI, Sandeep Kumar, brother-in-law of the deceased, said, “All five had left Gorakhpur in a bus for Jhansi.
They were supposed to board the train for Rajahmundry but by mistake boarded the train for Delhi.
Vijay Kumar is in critical condition, while others are fine.
They all are daily-wage labourers and work in a private company based in Andhra Pradesh.” According to the government railway police (GRP) Jhansi division, they received a distress message of the incident at around 2am.
“The five had jumped off the train after it had travelled nearly a km.
They had mistakenly boarded 02805 Visakhapatnam-New Delhi instead of 02806 New Delhi-Visakhapatnam which was supposed to arrive Jhansi station at around 1 am,” said sub-inspector Sandeep Kumar, holding the charge of station house officer Jhansi GRP.
He said, “Victims had panicked and jumped off the train after they realised about the mistake.
The body has been sent for autopsy.”
