Chandigarh: One of every four people, mostly without symptoms, tested positive for Covid-19 last month in Punjab is the contact of the case that is confirmed by laboratories.
Between July 25 and August 23, 1,452 cases were reported in the state, where 363 was contacts – households, workplaces and communities – from positive cases.
Data from the State Health Department revealed that the percentage of infected contacts from positive cases reached 24%.
Wise analysis of districts from the status of the contact tested shows that 60% of close contact in sangrur was found positive, 59% in Muktsar, 38% in Patiala, 32% in Ferozepur, 22% in Amritsar Fatehgarh and 11%.
The average trial search ratio of seven days has ranged between 14 and 20 contacts per case.
Contact Search – The process identifies the source of infection and tracking of people filled with patients before testing positive – is considered one of the main steps in breaking the transmission chain.
According to the guidelines specified for contacting contact cases confirmed, close contact was quarantined for 14 days from the last exposure date.
Contacts are tested and quarantined based on risk assessment involving factors such as proximity (less than 1 meter) duration (more than 15 minutes) and the nature of exposure.
If the contact changes symptomatic during the observation period, the person is immediately isolated and the test is done by the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) while the asymptomatic contacts from the confirmed case are tested once between days 5 and day 10 comes in contact.
There are around 700 teams deployed in tracing contacts in all districts.
Districts with complete loads have been given more teams.
Punjab Covid-19 Nodal Officer Dr.
Rajesh Bhaskar states that the State Health Department maintains the number of searches and testing of the desired contact.
“Routine monitoring is being carried out to ensure that contact contacts and testing are up to Mark,” said Dr.
Bhaskar.
In the past week, 16 contacts per case tracked on average in Punjab the number was 28.9 in Faridkot, 22.5 in Amritsar and 20.6 in Mohali.

There were no deaths reported from 13 regencies while eight districts reported each.
