Srinagar: A police officer was killed and two others were injured after a terrorist opened fire on “indiscriminately” in a police party at an intersection in the renegade of KULGAM, officials said, officials said.
They said the police were attacked when they were busy managing traffic in Adjan crossing on his way back after overseeing former Minister Abdul Majid Padar to his residence.
“Terrorists attacked the police party in Pombai in Damhal Hanjipora in Kulgam District by opening a fire, resulting in injury to three policemen,” said one official.
They said one of the injured policemen, which was identified as the Pregnant Ahmad Warkay, surrendered to injury when he was taken to the hospital.
Security forces have conducted cordoned from the area and launched hunting for attackers, officials added.
A police spokesman said the initial investigation revealed that a group of terrorists who opened fire on the police led by local station house officers.
“In this terror incident, three police personnel suffered a shot injury and evacuated to the hospital for medical care,” said the spokesman.
However, Constable Nesar Ahmad Warkay surrendered to injury, he added.
“Taking an undue advantage of a large traffic jam and the presence of a large number of civilians, the terrorists opened up indiscriminately in the sho and his bodyguard and managed to escape from the place.” However, to avoid damaging collateral in a hurry, the police party made a maximum restraint, “he said.
