Dunwoody: An explosion shook an apartment building on the outskirts of Atlanta on Sunday, giving a three-story complex that was unstable and left at least one person who was injured, said the authorities.
The cause of the explosion was unknown, but the local utility had received a call from residents about a strong gas smell shortly before the midday explosion, said the Deputy Fire Department Melvin Carter.
One person was taken to the hospital with a minor injury.
Carter said 90% of buildings were sought and officials were in the process of sustaining the remaining complex so that the rescue could continue to look for anyone who might be trapped.
He said there were reports of two countless people.
Helicopters and drones spin above the structure when the local red cross began to comb the residents to see who might need to find accommodation.
The building and several other nearby were evacuated.
Residents were told that Monday was the earliest they could return to their homes.
Previously, the Dunwoody Police Department wrote about social media that they received an explosion report in the apartment arrived shortly before 1:30 a.m.
Brandon Winfield, 28, who lives in a building next to the collapse, said he felt lucky that he avoided injury since he was driven by the site for years before the explosion.
“I live.
I live,” he said.
Collapse reminded him of a terrible accident that happened when he was a teenager, deciding his spine marrow while participating in Motocross.
“I avoid two bullets,” he said.
Eboni Thornton told WSB-TV that he was in a truck that moved outside the building when it felt like something fell on the vehicle.
He said the whole vehicle trembled.
He was surprised by what he saw when he came out of the truck.
“The rental office collapsed on the left side, the double door was blown and I could hear a woman shouting her head,” Thornton said.
Thornton said he saw several people limping and bleeding and taken out of debris.
The police said they were working with fire officials to determine the cause of the explosion in Dunwoody, suburbs in the north of Atlanta.
