Ghaziabad: Farmers at UP Gate and the district headquarters in Ghaziabad burnt copies of the farm bills to protest against the three laws that were passed in Parliament a year ago.
Police teams were deployed outside the houses of ministers VK Singh and Atul Garg as members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, which is spearheading the protest, threatened to demonstrate outside the residences of MLAs and other politicians.
At UP Gate, the protest was led by Gaurav Tikait, the nephew of BKU leader Rakesh Tikait.
“The government thinks the protest will wear off with time.
But they are wrong.
On Sunday, we burnt copies of the farm bills and this is the start of the renewed protest against the government” said Dharmendra Malik, a spokesperson for the BKU.
“Meetings are being held on how to take the agitation forward,” he added.
At the district collectorate, there was a small ruckus as the cops tried to stop the protesters from burning the bills.
“We were stopped from protesting against the farm laws.
But we still managed to do it in the presence of cops,” said Bijendra Choudhary, a BKU leader.
Similar protests were also held at the district collectorate and the three tehsil offices in Noida.
