Srinagar: Ten civilians were injured when terrorists blew up a grenade in security forces on Tuesday in the Heart of High Street in Singh’s busy day, police said.
Immediately after the incident, intensive examination was carried out to the arrest of a man who worked as a journalist with local news collection agents.
Two grenades were confiscated from him, officials said.
“Around 2:45 a.m., terrorists threw grenades in the High Street area of the day in the Srinagar district.
Senior police officers immediately reached the place,” said a police spokesman.
He said the preliminary investigation revealed that terrorists threw a grenade towards the SSB bunker in the area.
“However, the grenade missed the intended target and instead exploded on a road that produced a mild injury to 10 civilians brought to the nearest hospital,” said the spokesman.
He said that following the incident, all point in and out in and around the Lal Chowk area was sealed and all checkpoints throughout the city were activated.
“During intensive examinations, the party with Naka near the Makkah Market understood suspicious people and after looking for her bag, two grenades were found,” he said.
The man, Adil Farooq Bhat, a resident of Khrew Pampore, has been arrested.
He was a journalist with a local news collection agent, a police spokesman said.
He said the Bhat was previously arrested in February 2019 and was detained under PSA because of his involvement in providing logistics and other support for active terrorists operating in the Khrew area.
The police have a registered case under the relevant section of the law and investigation, he said.
