10% increase in mortality of Kerala; Reason: ‘Hidden’ Covid Death?

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has recorded the highest mortal mortality in a decade by 2021 with 25,000 more registered deaths from the previous year, an increase in many health officials associated the impact of the second Covid-19 wave, which is fully the state of the government has officially reluctant to admit.

Except for three districts – Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod – the number of deaths rose from the previous year in all districts in 2021, with differences ranging from 1,000 to almost 5,000.
Ernakulam recorded the highest increase – 4,870 deaths – while it was 4,000 and more in Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur and Kozhikode.
A technical paper carried by the Ministry of Health has shown that naturally mortality has dropped in Kerala during the initial phase of the pandemic.
According to him, there was a reduction of 11.1% in the number of absolute deaths in 2020 compared to 2019, with registration of vital events.
The cause of non-covid, the number of deaths from infectious diseases is 145 in 2021.
Data is available until October 2021 shows that Kerala recorded 2,738 accident deaths as against 2,979 in 2020.
Death due to infectious diseases and accidents has declined by 2020 and 2021 compared with pre-covid years.
Covid’s death registration in the local body has taken steps during the second wave, ranging from 405 Covid deaths a month to more than 10,000 death registration in May 2021, according to RTI data.
Between March and May, the registration figure put three months at 12,564.
The cumulative Covid mortality rate in 2020 was 3,095, which touched 47,794 on December 31, 2021.
Reconciliation of death data has recorded a 15-fold increase in Covid mortality within one year.
