Mumbai: Ten months after the Mass Covid-19 vaccination program began on January 16, Mumbai managed “100% coverage” from the first shot on Saturday.
“The target of giving the first dose to 92.39,902 people in Mumbai was reached during the day on Saturday,” BMC vaccine updates.
Mumbai is now among a handful of cities and cities – Bhubhaneswar, which is the first in this country, Indore, Ladakh and Kinnaur, among others – to statistically resolved 100% first dose coverage.
Unlike the single dose covid vaccine available in the West, the Covid vaccine available in India requires two shots for completion.
About 1.5 doses of crore vaccines have been provided so far in Mumbai, and BMC now focuses on completing the second shot coverage.
Until Saturday, 60.33,148 (65% of the city adult population) was fully vaccinated.
“We will not stop giving the first shot as 92.3 lakh is only a projection based on census data and the number of citizens who meet the requirements.
The total population of adult cities can be higher when new people continue to come to the city,” BMC said.
Suresh Kakani’s additional commissioner.
“We want to continue to vaccinate until everyone who lives in Mumbai or works here is safe,” Kakani added.
There are other reasons for BMC to continue to offer first vaccine shots: Many beneficiaries can come from neighboring satellite cities, especially in previous months when the vaccine is in a short supply.
“Mumbai is geographically integrated with the nearest satellite cities, so it’s possible that 10% of the total beneficiaries have so far come from outside the city,” Kakani said.
On Saturday, the Cowin Center portal showed that 89,529 people had taken vaccines in Mumbai.
BMC updates say reconciliation exercises have been carried out, which leads to 31,730 shots given at private hospitals between May and October are added to take Saturday counting to 1.18,237.
Thane Municipal Corporation said it had sent more than 50,000 vaccine doses since starting a door-to-door drive in Thane four days ago.
