Letter: At least 1,000 idols Lord Ganesha was found from a variety of channels and small ponds by a group of young men Sanskruti Raksha Samiti (SRS) and sank into the sea in Hazira.
After paying attention to the sad conditions of the Idol set, SRS started the drive a few years ago.
In 2020 the group had recovered and sank more than 4,500 idols.
This year, fewer idols are soaked in incorrect because there is a decrease in the total number of ganesh this year due to restrictions related to Covid.
The group does not take outside financial assistance for initiative.
“Every year after soaking day we see Ganesha idols lying around.
Instead of immersing it properly, many people throw them into canals or ponds.
People have to stop doing this,” said Ashish Suryavanshi from SRS.
Paying attention to the condition of idol after soaking SRS was formed by young people from Udhna.
Some volunteers have joined efforts and now they have members in various parts of the city.
“We have made representation to the government with a request to ban idol pop completely.
If the idol made of clay will soon dissolve in water and we can prevent God’s insults by some irresponsible people,” Suryavanshi said.
Volunteers visit various canals and soaking spots.
Total this year 19 artificial ponds were created in the city by Municipal Corporation (SMC) along with soaking at the sea in Hazira.
