Bengaluru: To provide transportation facilities on a narrow road and the area around the Metro station, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has decided to spread 1,000 mini buses, each with a capacity of 20 seats, starting next year.
Speaking at the launch of BMTC BMTC BS-VI and the electric bus on Monday, the Minister of Transportation Karnataka B Sriramulu said, “This mini bus will reduce traffic congestion within the city limits.” BMTC officials say Mini buses will not have conductors.
“We are now working on modalities.
We have not finished whether it will fill in a flat fee or have a smart or smart card-based trip on this bus,” an official said.
He said the bus, 5-6 million, will be slightly larger than Tempo tours.
“These buses can be operated on a solid road that width 30-40 feet.
They will have a fast turnaround, so the bus frequency will be high.
It’s ideal for the Metro feeder route,” he said.
He said that every bus would cost Rs 15-20 lakh.
“We will need Rs 150-200 Crore for 1,000 mini buses.
We will also be able to operate this bus to the apartment complex and other narrow interior roads such as Chickpet.” Separately, BMTC was inaugurating 90 e-AC bus (9m long with 33+ 1 seat) which will be operated as a metro feeder service to provide the first and last connectivity under Bengaluru Smart City funds.
Advanced Ticket System Sriramulu said BMTC will introduce a sophisticated ticket system involving electronic ticket machines and UPI card payments / wallet / debit / discharge cards.
“The project under the automatic tariff collection system will be implemented in six months,” he said.
The minister also said the Ministry of Manpower and BMTC will issue ‘Vanitha Engeasi’ passed to a lakh female garment worker in the city from January 1.
“The ticket fee will be borne by the garment factory owner (40%), the Ministry of Manpower (40%), and BMTC (20%),” he said.
“Considering encouraging responses to reducing tariffs for Vajra services, BMTC will add Vajra fleet from the bus 183 currently up to 300 next year.
Monthly Passes by reducing the 1,500 RS level will be issued from January,” Sriramulu said.
Under the Central Nirdraya scheme, he said, BMTC installed a vehicle tracking unit, CCTV camera, passenger information system, and panic keys in 5,000 buses.

These steps will ensure women’s safety.
They are funded by the central and state government in the 60:40 ratio,” Minister said.
