1,000 police at the Uttarakhand border to stop Kanwarias

Dehradun: More than 1,000 police personnel have been deployed by Uttarakhand about various border points between countries to stop the movement of Kanwarias.
Additional police pickets have appeared in the Purkazi area, Morna, Khanpur and Sikandarpur along the Uttarakhand-Uttar Pradesh border.
Like last year, Uttarakhand has canceled Yatra’s Kanwar in Haridwar district this year too, to prevent Covid-19 outbreaks.
The neighboring country of Uttar Pradesh, who was originally planned to regulate on a limited scale, also canceled it after the Supreme Court intervention.
The month of ‘Shrawan’ starts on Saturday.
It also marks the beginning of Kanwar Yatra.
Police in Uttarakhand explained that they would enforce the state government’s decision to cancel Yatra and would not allow Kanwarias to enter Haridwar.
“In Haridwar himself, more than 1,000 police personnel have been deployed at the border point between countries to prevent Kanwarias’s movement,” said a senior police officer.
To spread awareness, posters, and pamphlets distributed on the train that arrived in Haridwar from Uttar Pradesh, added the senior COP.
Har-ki-pauri ghat in haridwar, from where Kanwarias collects holy water every year, has been “sealed for pilgrims” with fixed barricades until August 6
