10,000 Piandemic orphans, SC told

New Delhi: Because data from several countries is compiled to track children who are left orphans or lose one parent during the Covid pandemic, the National Commission for Protection of Children’s Rights has told the Supreme Court that around 1.5 lakh children now need it Care and protection after losing at least one of their parents.
More than 10,000 of the 1.5 lakh these children have lost their parents, NCPCR told the apex court.
In a statement of his statement submitted to the Supreme Court, NCPCR said that from 1 April 2020 until now, 10,094 children were orphaned and 1,36,910 lost one of their parents because Covid and other diseases during the Pandemic period.
Affidavit, which was proposed by the Advocate Safupama Chaturvedi, said that around 488 children were abandoned in almost two years and the majority of children affected by the age group 0-13.
According to the report, the largest number of children like that came from Odisha (24,405), followed by Maharashtra (1,9623), Gujarat (14,770) and Tamil Nadu (11,014).
“Very low humbiously confirm that the data of children uploaded on ‘Baal Swaraj Portal-Covid Care’ by the state / UTS consists of both categories of children, where the child has lost both or one of the parents with Covid-19 or vice versa from April 2020 and the match one of their parents who both parents died for other than Covid-19 disease from April 2020 to 11 January 2022, “said Affidavit.
It stated that the majority of children affected between the age group eight to 13 years (59,010), while 22,763 was in the age group 14 to 15 years.
