102 Shg Women Start Procurement of Paddy at Ganjam Dist

Awaited: The process of procuring rice that has been awaited has started in the Ganjam district on Wednesday.
More Number of Women Self-Brand Group (WSHG) from last year has been deployed in this year’s work.
Altogether 102 WSHG with more than 1,000 workers – the highest in the state – has been involved in procurement activities.
Last year, 64 WSHG has worked in the procurement process in the state.
“Last year, they had done well in the procurement of plants in all districts.
Considering their past experiences, we have involves more WSHG at this time in the procurement process,” said Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kouse, who has initiated the procurement process in Pochilima, Hinjili Block.
“We have provided three-round training to WSHG.
Members, are involved in procurement activities.
They will verify the quality of rice and procurement from farmers and disburse to Millers,” said the Deputy List of Cooperative People Buswa Ranjan Das.
SHGS will receive a commission RS 32.25 per quintal for the work, said the source.
In addition, 383 primary agricultural cooperative communities and one Pani Panchayat have also been involved in the procurement process, adding a watershed.
After verification, 1.22 lakh farmers in all districts have shown interest in supplying rice.
“The government has set a 36.04 lakh target to get from farmers in the first phase.
Last year, they had bought more than 45 lakh rice quintals.
The government tends to increase the target,” said Chairman of Pusha Munda’s civil supply officer.
They have targeted to open 470 Mandis (Procurement Center) in all districts to facilitate farmers.
On the first day, they opened at least one center in each block, adding Munda.
Meanwhile, farmer organizations have demanded rice norms to relax this time because farmers in all districts suffered due to rain in the first week of December.
“Paddy harvested in some areas has changed color because of a puddle of water followed by rain.
We want the government to buy all rice from farmers, regardless of quality,” said Simanchal Nahak, Secretary, Rushikulya Rait Maha Sabha.
