Wellington: The New Zealand government on Monday said that it would extend a strict national lock to at least Friday for trying to extinguish the growing outbreak of the Koronavirus.
The news came when the health authority reported 35 new local infections from the Delta variant which spread quickly, the highest number of Covid-19 cases in New Zealand since April last year.
First found last week, the outbreak has grown to 107 cases.
But the health authority said they had found relationships among most of the cases, giving them their hopes of canceling the outbreak.
Authorities said they had tested around 3% of all country populations over the past six days.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the Kuncian will continue until at least the end of the month in Auckland, where most cases have been found.
“We need further information.
We need more certainty.
We don’t want to risk anything with Delta,” Ardern said.
‘If the world has taught us anything, it must be careful with this Covid variant.
19.
Ardern said modeling suggested the plague must peak within a few days, and then decline.
One of the reasons for locking is considered important in New Zealand in the level of inoculation remains low, with only around 20% of people who are fully vaccinated.
Strict keys mean most people must remain at home, leaving only to buy food or medicine, or exercise.
Ardern also announced that the government has decided to suspend a regular parliamentary session for a week, an interesting step of criticism from opposition parliamentarians.
“ When New Zealand has the hardest kuncian in the world and has lost our freedom because of the failure of the government to vaccinate and secure the border, this step by Jacinda Ardern is unexpected, “ said Judith Collins, Judith leader, his leader opposite.
While New Zealand maintains its strategy to try to remove the virus completely through locking, Australian neighbors seem to have recognized that locking will not be able to eliminate the Delta variant completely and can only slow its spread.
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said Lockdown was “ not a sustainable way to live in this country.
“He said the state had to open their borders so the vaccination rate reached 80% of the population aged 16 years and over.
His statement came as an outbreak in Sydney grew more than 800 cases, close to the record level.
The health authority said the plague centered in Melbourne also grew by 71 cases and others in the capital, Canberra, grew by 16 cases.
The three cities remain in locking.
But in Western Australia, where there was no community infection, Premier Mark McGowan said the government would not be reopened at an 80% vaccination rate if it means introducing the virus.
About 24% of Australians are fully vaccinated.
