Bengaluru: Bengaluru is a district where most languages are said in this country, said the latest analysis of the 2011 census by two academics.
No less than 107 languages used in Bengaluru, including 22 scheduled languages and 84 were not scheduled.
Other districts where more than 100 languages are pronounced from Nagaland (103) and Sonitpur of Assam (101), said analysis by Shamika Ravi, a senior colleague of non-resident brookings institutions, and Mudit Kapoor, a professor of Associo, economics at the Statistics Institute India.
The most diverse district including Yanam (Puducherry), Kaiur (Bhabua, Bihar), Kaushambi and Kanpur Dehat (Uttar Pradesh) and Ariyalur (Tamil Nadu).
In these districts, less than 20 languages used.
In Bengaluru, the total percentage of people who speak Kannada is 44%.
Other main languages include Tamil (15%), Telugu (14%), Urdu (12%), Hindi (6%), Malayalam (3%), Marathi (2%), Konkani (0.6%), Bengali ( 0.6%)%) and odia (0.5%).
Languages like Pochury, Kondh, Sangtam and Wancho have the least number of speakers.
The authors show that the census includes all languages regardless of the size of the population that speaks.
