Chennai: Customs official at Chennai International Airport found 107 spiders living in Post packages from Poland, the word release on Friday.
Based on information, Chennai Air Customs intercept the postal package that arrived from Poland at a foreign post office.
The package is aimed at someone in Arkupiotai (Tamil Nadu).
When cut open, the parcel has a thermocol box where 107 small plastic bottles are wrapped in silver foil and cotton found.
On examination, life spiders are found in each bottle.
Wild Life Crime Control Bureau (WCC) Officials and Scientists of the Zoological Survey India (SRC) are called to identify species.
Based on morphological examination, they suspect spiders became genus phonopelma and brachypelma which is a Tarantula registered in CITES, native to South America, Central America and Mexico.
Animal quarantine officials were recommended to deport the Parcel containing spiders to the country of origin because the import was illegal because there was no DGFT (Directorate General of Foreign Trade) and imported documents related to India.
Vial containing spiders, spiders confiscated based on the 1962 Customs Law that was read by the Foreign Trade Law (Development and Regulation), 1992.
Gifts containing spiders were submitted to postal authorities to be deported to Poland, the country of origin.
Further investigation is underway, the release said.
