Nagpur: Nagpur University (NU) will provide the highest number of Philosafat Doctoral (PhD) degrees in the last five years during the 108th meeting on July 9, will provide a record of 870 PhDs in students on Friday, but it will be done virtually due to covid restrictions -19, according to NU officials.
NU will also provide a doctorate (DLITT) to Ratnakar Bhelkar and Dr.
Tulsidas Gedam, both at the Humanities faculty.
While the first will get a degree to study about ‘Tukadoji Gram Geeta translation: Reality traditions’, the latter will accept it for the project in ‘Shudra, everyone’.
Bhelkar will be the second to receive a prestigious title in English in the past four decades after RO ROH, former Head of the Department of England.
Officials informed that the university would provide 195 medals and prizes for contributing students from various faculties.
Among the main winners is the Agrieval Prachi course from BA LLB (five years) from Dr.
Babasaheb Ambedkar Law College in DeeShabhoomi, who won 11 medals.
He was attended by students of MBA Aditya Khode from Dr.
Ambedkar Institute of Management Studies and Gauri Joshi from the NU Chemistry Department, with seven each.
Amol Dhakde from the department of thought Dr.
Ambedkar NU has won six, together with Poonam belek from Anjuman Engineering College.
According to NU officials, the 842 highest PhD was previously given during the 103rd convocation in November 2016.
The highest ever 998 was presented during a historic 100th meeting.
The majority of 870 PhD recipients comes from the Faculty of Science and Technology, followed by Humanities and then trade and management.
They added that even though NU introduced strict norms during the period of former VC SP Kane and Pro-VC Pramod Yeole, the number of PhDs continued to swell over the years.
Kane and Yeole have introduced two PET-1 and PET-2 tests for those who pursue PhDs, which initially leads to reducing the number of candidates.
However, the new administration under VC Subhash Chaudhari calmed the norm by canceling two tests and returning a test that could cause violating these numbers, officials said.
The governor to attend the Online Prog of NU officials revealed that Governor Maharashtra and Chancellor Bhagat Singh Koshyari will attend the online ceremony, because he will go to Delhi for some urgent official work.
Previously, he agreed to lead the ceremony to provide a Doctor of Law (LLD) to the former head of the Head of Bobde Sharad India.
