Hyderabad: At least 10 lakh people in Hyderabad and their districts are late because of their second vaccine dose.
Large backlogs have worried officials.
Many still do not want or worry even though a large impulse by the state has placed health staff at work to identify and persuade people like that.
On Wednesday, Minister of Finance and Health T Harish Rao held a high-level meeting with health officials and asked them to speed up the drive vaccine.
He said the trip was running fast in Vicarabad and urged officials to speed up the process in other districts as well.
The Ministry of Health staff has been instructed to conduct a house-to-house inspection too.
According to the estimated health department, there were 3.8 lakh people in Hyderabad, another 3.8 lakh in Ranga Reddy and rested around 2.4 lakh from Medchal Malkajgiri and the Sangareddy district late for the second dose.
“Even though the second dose window ends, these people haven’t arrived for vaccines,” an official said.
In some districts, the call center has also been established to contact people who missed their second dose deadlines.
“We check whether they have taken the second dose and the problem with digital notes or if they avoid the dose,” said the source.
Officials claim that many people have quoted a decline in cases because they are reluctant to take second shots.
The need for a second shot was recently emphasized by the Ministry of Health Union Additional Secretary Dr.
Manohar Agnani also temporarily urged the state to take steps to complete tasks urgently.
“Complete two doses of vaccination is when providing protection.
It also reduces the chances of being very painful after infection,” he explained.
