Ahmedabad: Although the last two years affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the dry state continued to witness the smuggling of liquor.
This can be seen from the number of liquor seizures in Gujarat.
On average, 11 bottles of Indian foreign liquor (IMFL) were confiscated in 2021.
According to Gujarat police numbers, the police won liquor worth Rs 115 Crore in 2020 which rose to RS 124 Crore in 2021.
The seizure covers good Liquid State and IMFL.
In the IMFL category, 45.15 Lakh Liquor Bottle worth RS 114 Crore was confiscated in 2020 which rose to 57.12 lakh liquor bottle worth Rs 122 Crore in 2021, said sources in the police.
State police won liquor 11.59 lakh worth Rs 1.95 Crore in 2020 and 17.54 liters of Landia worth Rs 2.30 Crore in 2021.
“In 2020, the Gujarat police submitted 1.53 cases of lakh under the prohibition action for Liquor spasms in all states increased to 1.69.
The lakh case in 2021, “said a Gujarat police officer.
Officers said that around 1.64 lakh was accused of being bootleging fees in 2020 and 1.67 lakh in 2021.
The officers added that spasms of liquor, their cases were and accused of less in 2020 because of the locking of about three months.
Even though the curbs were there in 2021 because of the increase in Covid cases, there was no limit to transportation so that liquor continued to flow into a dry state.
According to numbers, there are still 21,583 accused of escaping in cases of liquor seizures.
In 2019, Gujarat police had won the IMFL and rural fluid worth RS 215 Crore.
That year, around 68 bottles of Lakh IMFL were confiscated.
Gujarat DGP Ashish Bhatia said that cases of liquor seizures had increased due to police vigilance.
At the query about smuggling liquor to Gujarat, Bhatia said, “It is impossible humanly to examine every and every truck that comes to the country.
But we remain vigilant and with the help of human intelligence and input to store tabs on liquor mafia.”
