Manila: At least 11 people were killed after a small truck packed with party visitors, including children, upside down in the southern Philippines, police said on Thursday.
The vehicle traveled to the beachfront resort on Mindanao Island for a Christmas party which was postponed on Wednesday when the driver lost control after the brakes seemed to fail on the road to decline.
About 50 people crammed into the truck, most of them in the open tray, when turning out of the road and becoming a tree.
The vehicle then turned upside down to a stack of stones, said the Teodoro de Oro City Police Chief.
Eleven people were killed, including a three-year-old child, said De Oro, added police trying to confirm three more deaths.
Other passenger scores were injured, including a dozen children.
The driver, who was also injured and tried to hide after receiving medical treatment, was arrested and will face charges.
The vehicle was part of a three-truck convoy but the other two were not involved in the accident, said De Oro.
Deadly road accidents often occur in the Philippines, where drivers often sacrifice rules and vehicles are often maintained badly or overloaded.
In 2019, 19 farmers were killed in the northern Philippines of the mountains when a truck carrying them and rice seed sacks fell back down the deep cliff.
