110kg marijuana seized in Thiruvananthapuram, two arrested

Thiruvananthapuram: City police on Sunday seized 110kg marijuana worth around Rs 60 lakh in two separate cases, including a large catch of 100kg.
The seizure was made at the limit of the Pettah police station and Poojappura.
They also arrested two men with respect to cases.
The two seizures were carried out by each local police with the help of the Special Action Anti-Narcotics District (Dansaf), which maintained high alertness in the city, as part of a special drive launched on daily occasions against drug abuse on Saturday.
Within the limit of the pettah station, the police confiscated 100kg of marijuana hidden in a vacant land in bylane near the 66 National Highway near Chackai.
They also arrested Mohammed, 59, derived from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, on charges of smuggling coverage to the city.
Police Commissioner Vaibhav Saxena said that marijuana came from Andhra Pradesh.
Then smuggled on the border of the country in a truck carrying vegetables from Tamil Nadu to Kerala.
Mohammed is just one of the big rackets involving people from the state, DCP said.
Investigations into information collected from those who were arrested recently in cases of narcotics in the city caused Mohammed, he added.
Marijuana seized packed in 46 packages, stored in two gunny bags.
The police have launched the probe to track and arrest the remaining gang members.
In Poojapura, the police arrested Sriram, 24, from Jalan Katakhal near Thirumala, with 10kg of marijuana.
The contraband it was captured from his residence.
The police are looking for their homes based on tip-off received by T Pradeep Kumar, assistant commissioner of city narcotics cells.
The police said that Sriram and his twin brother were customary violators who had cases of delayed in various police stations in the city for the same violations.
The two men were produced in front of the court and returned in the custody of the judiciary.
Dansaf members involved in both catches led by assistant commissioner T Pradeep Kumar and Commissioner of the City Special Branch Assistant M K Binukumar.
