Thiruvananthapuram: There were 11,685 families within 50 meters of the coastline along the coast of the country, Fisheries, Culture and Affairs of the Cherian Pemuda said in the assembly on Tuesday.
Replying to the submission by opposition leader V D Sathean demanded redesigning the ongoing Punjampham project to move such a family from the coastline, the minister said that according to a survey, there were 11 million coastlines.
From them, 3,367 families lived in 10m, 3.921 in 10-20m, 4.577 in 20-30m and 6,820 in 30-50m.
He said that from these families, 7,192 had agreed to move based on the scheme.
He said that this project aims to provide a 10 lakh rs for a family like that, where RS 6 Lakh will be to buy land (two cents if within city or corporations and three cents if in rural areas) and the rest is for home construction.
A total of 2,450 crore houses have been for this project, where RS 1,398 Crore comes from the Minister of MINISTER OF THE MINISTER Minister, while Rs 1,052 Crore comes from the fisheries department budget.
He said that the land had been located for 2,275 families while 1,630 families had obtained their registered land and 428 houses had finished.
Meanwhile, the opposition leader said that the numbers quoted by the Minister were not in accordance with the facts.
He said that this project requires a total overhaul because the conditions arranged in this scheme are truly impractical.
He said that the condition that they had to surrender their existing land and home to be moved could not be justified.
“Why someone who has, for example, 15 cents and a house surrendered to the government to get three cents, which they might not be able to buy with the money offered by the government?” He asked.
Also, he slammed another clause that they had to complete the construction work of new homes within 12 months, failed which they had to pay 18% interest.
“Even the government will not be able to build it in this period and they are asked to pay this great interest.
Does the government play a personal moneylender role?” Satheani said.
