Hyderabad: In the main fear at the Indian Technology Institute of Hyderabad (IIT-H), 119 students and staff were tested positive for Covid-19 between January 6 and January 11, the authorities said.
While 45 of them – 22 undergraduate students, 14 graduate students, seven research scholars, one regular staff member, and outsourced amplifier – which was positively tested on Tuesday, the remaining 74 was tested positive for the past week.
Students say that instead of having separate isolation facilities for infected, they are made to stay on the top floor of the hostel building, which causes discomfort for others.
A student who is looking for anonymity also claims their request is looking for permission to leave the campus all detained.
“We are afraid to stay in the same building along with those who have tested positive.
Why can’t they have a separate building or close the campus and send students home so we will be safe at our place?” Said students.
Other students added, “As soon as the first positive case was reported at the Institute, I asked permission to go home.
But, so far, there was no response from the authorities concerned.
It was not provided easily,”.
B S Mahty, Director, Iith, denied the allegations and said that all the norms needed were being followed for the safety of residents on campus.
“We have made an insulation setting on the top floor of the hostel and students tested positively not allowed to step out.
Medicines and food are sent to their doorsteps and their health is being monitored regularly,” Murty said added that students who wanted to leave campus freely for go.
“We have even written an email to the Minister of State and the center because the authorities do not handle our concerns.
Because of fear, some students even leave campus,” said a student.
