Nagpur: About 12 police handling the intelligence collection system at the police station level was tested by Covid-19 positive last week, after returning from the ten-day training schedule at Pune on September 9 and their families were quarantined in the Nagpur of the Municipal Corporation and Police Hospital.
A police woman from the Sakkarardara police station, whose dose of vaccination is both delayed, is among those who are tested positively.
Of the 12, around 10 have received a dose of vaccination.
About 33 police from various police stations, working as ‘Khufiya’ (intelligence collectors), have gone to Pune for training from August 30 and so on.
Training is scheduled at Maharashtra Intelligence Academy (MIA) where the police provide on-job training regularly.
Apart from Nagpur, the police from the district and other units were also present in the training.
City police have conducted a Covid test of 31 police so far.
Testing their family members is also being carried out.
Learned that Nagpur police were given the task of gathering information from the Shanichara market and side by side with its location as part of the training.
Some participants felt their prolonged presence between crowds in Pune could explain them to the virus.
“On September 6, I felt discomfort but could not measure what it was.
On September 9, we were released from training and reached Nagpur the next day.
I decided to take a Covid test,” said one of the affected police officers.
Learned that the police from the Kotwali police station first shared his anxiety with the head of Dr.
Sandip Shinde’s medical officer at the police hospital at the headquarters on Friday.
He, along with his room partner from the Lakadganj police station, was tested and was the first to be tested positive for Covid.
Dr.
Ashwini Took’s infectious disease specialist said he had told the higher officials about the filtering of outstation travelers who came to the city.
“I see many Covid patients coming from outside,” he said.
Another transmitted disease specialist Dr.
Nitin Shinde said the case trends that appear and death can be labeled as “Casedemi” because it is a general phenomenon in the background of vaccination drive.
“We will have a large number of cases but 90% of them may not become severe or lead to hospitalization or death, thanks to vaccination,” Shinde said.
City Police Chief (CP) Amitesh Kumar, who along with CP Aswati Dorje and DCP (Head Office) Sandeep Pakhale oversee patient testing and care, said the condition of infected police and their families was being monitored.
“We provide all the support and medical assistance,” Kumar said.
