New Delhi: Twelve people, including three private bank employees, have been arrested on charges of trying to suck money from money ‘very high-value’ nri banks that have around Rs 200 Crore in it.
The accusation has bought an Indian cellphone number that is identical to the US-based US holder telephone number to facilitate fund transfers.
Following complaints submitted by HDFC Bank, technical investigations revealed that 66 unauthorized online transaction efforts were made on the account, said Delhi Police DCP (Cyber Cell) KPS Malhotra.
“Furthermore, the defendant tries to withdraw cash from the account using a checkbook that is gained cheating.
They even then try to update the cellphone number in the KYC document by changing the registered cellphone number,” Malhotra said.
A team led by ACP Raman Lamba was assigned to identify the culprit based on technical and intelli human traces.
Some geolocations were identified and raids were carried out in 20 locations in Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
This caused 12 arrests.
Three bank employees include a relationship manager, who issued a checkbook, updating the cellphone number and removing the freezing of debt on the account.
Bank employees are crowned as D Chaurasia, a Singh and a woman whose identity is not disclosed.
The defendant’s interrogation revealed that Mastermind had learned that the NRI account was not active and had a lot of funds.
With the help of female bank employees, they got a checkbook issued and also received debt freezing.
The probe further revealed that he was promised by Rs 10 Lakh and the insurance business of Rs 15 Lakh, the target assigned to him by the Bank for assessment.
Even before, efforts have been made to withdraw money from this account.
Two registered cases, one in Ghaziabad and others in Mohali in Punjab.
The account check book then appears in ownership of one R Jaiswal.
He distributed a leaf book check to his hand to make them cleaned and promised to share 50% of the money drawn from the account.
He must give approval to the bank by telephone on behalf of the actual account holder.
Chaurasiya and Singh tried to update the telephone number that was linked to the account, while other colleagues tried to enter internet banking to transfer funds.
“Efforts to withdraw funds, enter Internet Banking and update cellphone numbers are only possible because of the Bank employee convion,” Malhotra said.
