Agartala: At least 12 leaders and workers from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) were arrested in Khowai District Tripura on Sunday.
According to the police, TMC activists were arrested for violating Covid norms.
They will be produced before the court is in the middle of a strict security setting.
TMC National Secretary General Abhishek Banerjee reached Agartala and went to Khowai to meet with the party workers arrested.
The police said that 12 TMC members were arrested for violating Covid restrictions by traveling after the imposition of hours at night at 7pm.
Tripura TMC spokesman Ashish Lal Singh said that party leaders including himself, Debangshu Bhattacharya, Tania Poddar, Sudip Raha and Jaya Dutta were arrested.
Raha and Dutta suffered injuries when their vehicle was allegedly attacked by BJP workers in the ambassa in the Dhalai district on Saturday.
“After the attack, we returned to Agartala through the National Highway 8 when the police stopped our vehicle in Khowai and took us to custody stating that there might be more attacks on us with ‘criminals’.
