12-year-old with rare tetanus survive on GMCH after 37 days in the ventilator

Nagpur: In a rare case, a doctor from the Department of Medical Medical College (GMCH) Nagpur saved a 12-year-old boy who suffered from Tetanus, which was a rare disease now.
The boy caught an infection in his home village in Rewa in Madhya Pradesh.
Because he was not vaccinated against Tetanus, the disease turned serious for him.
ICU is responsible for GMC Dr.
Milind VyawaHare told TI that this was the first case of tetanus in the past two years and first of all serious cases in recent years.
Dr.
Vyawhare said that tetanus injection is very common and rarely see patients with serious disease levels.
“It’s difficult for new doctors to diagnose infections,” he said.
Super Hospital Super in MP and the famous private hospital in Nagpur referred to the boy to GMCH after initial treatment.
The ICU responsible said the patient experienced continuous seizures because of the tetanus.
“The rate of pulse and blood pressure fluctuated due to the involvement of the autonomic nervous system.
The patient cannot breathe because of continuous seizures.
So, he is stored in the support of the ventilator,” said Dr.
Vyawahare.
The boy reached Nagpur on August 5 and was treated at a private hospital for two days.
On August 7, he reached the GMC and immediately subject to ventilator support.
It’s in the ventilator until September 15.
The doctor from a private set-up told toi that it would be very difficult for every private hospital to guard the patient in the ventilator for 37 days and then weaned him from a life support system.
Dinesh Uncle’s mother patients told toi that they came from poor families and GMC was the last ray of hope.
“The doctors have given their second life to my niece.
He is not aware for more than a month and we have little hope.
But the doctor is sure,” he said.
HOD Department of Medicine, Dr.
Prashant Patil, GMC Dean Dr.
Sudhir Gupta and Medical Supervisors Dr Avinash Gawande appreciated the efforts taken by doctors and nurses staff.
The boy is fine now.
The doctor managed to wean him from the ventilator and shift to another neighborhood.
He will be sent home after the closure of the tracheostomy.
A doctor for whom this is a learning experience saying that the boy’s condition is very bad so they have to make a gap in front of the neck so that the tube can be put in the wind to help him.
“This is the first case of Tetanus in my career,” he said.
Rare meetings – due to extensive vaccination, Tetanus is now a rare disease – in 1980, the case of registered tetanus is 45,948.
In 2019, only 35 cases in India – before the latest case, Nagpur GMCH only saw one tetanus case in 2018 – the 12-year-old patient was stored in a ventilator for 37 consecutive days, restored on September 15 – he was referred from the hospital Super specialized in MP and famous personal hospitals in Nagpur
