CORAPUT: Tightening acne around the illegal trade of developing marijuana, a team from the Jeypore conscious police station confiscated 1,243 kg of smuggled worth RS 1.2 Crore and arrested two people with a gun on charges of drug smuggling banned on Friday night.
Police sources said after the Raid Tip-Off was held near Brahmanainaon Village at around 6:30 a.m.
Cannabis is loaded in van pick-up and around 12 to 14 people are present at the place.
“While we managed to capture only two people, others fled under the closing of the darkness,” Aditya Mahakur said, the officer who was responsible for the Jeypore conscious police station, who led the team.
The police have not confirmed where marijuana is bought.
“Cannabis will be transported to other areas in the state and outside in small vehicles.
Kingpin managed to escape and the captured duo had a little knowledge about consignment.
We tried to arrest other people involved in smuggling racquets,” Mahakur said.
The arrested duo has been identified as Pradeep Pradhan (28) and Abhinash Maharana (23), police said.
Apart from marijuana, the police won the Van Pick-Up used in transporting marijuana, two motorbikes and four cellphones from crime.
In less than four weeks, the police realized Jeypore had won marijuana worth more than Rs 2 Crore when transported in the district.
