Nagpur: The release of illegal waste water in Nag and the Pili river increases.
A study assigned by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) in 2011 has identified 107 empty pollution streams into two rivers.
Now, this number has increased to 127, confirming a senior official from the River and Lake NMC plug department.
The main part of 525mL was wastewater produced by the city was dismissed in three rivers – Pili, Nag and Pora.
In accordance with the corporate study of the city of Nagpur, Pili and Nag Rivers carry around 360ml wastewater.
“To check the release of contaminated water to these rivers, the NMC will put a 610km pipe along the Pili and Nag Rivers,” the official said.
This is part of the RS2.117.56 Crore Nag River pollution reduction project.
The project, approved based on the national river conservation plan, will be carried out by the National River Conservation Directorate.
This will reduce the level of pollution in the case of untreated waste, solid waste and other impurities flowing into the Nag River and its tributaries.
“The work on the front is awaiting approval by the expenditure financing committee led by the Union Financial Secretary and the notice will be issued after the Union cabinet decision,” he said.
“The process of appointing project management consultations will be completed within two months,” he said.
The second stage will develop from Nag Riverfront later – the city signature river.
Under pollution reduction projects, NMC aims to treat 102ml wastewater.
In addition to installing a waste treatment plant to treat 90mld water, the NMC will also rehabilitate two mini STPs installed in Ghat Mancapages on the Pili River and in Mokshadham Ghat in Nag River.
After the first project was completed, the NMC would release 85 to 90ml to take care of waste water to the NAG River to ensure the eternal flow.
Six STP will be arranged in various locations along the river.
Officers showed that the Civic body included all three rivers under the pollution reduction project, which set it around RS4,000 crore.
The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) refused to finance a very large amount.
“So, NMC excludes the path from the project.
Now, it will be the responsibility of NMC to treat polluted water on the pora river,” he said.
The central government and state will pay JICA loans with a share bearing of 60% and 25%, while the NMC will pump 15% funds, he added.
NMC will take a river bank development project on the Nag River only after the pollution reduction project is complete, the official said.
The second project will consist of a 15 meter landscape on both sides of the Nag River.
