12th century inscriptions found in Udupi Village

Udupi: Two Kannada inscriptions belonging to the 12th century Alupa Era found recently in the Udupi District by the research team.
“We have confirmed that one inscription belongs to the Alupa King Kusuekhara I.
Second inscription, was found in less than a week from the same place, also from the 12th century.
Only a few letters seen on it,” said the history and student of archaeological research Shruthesh Acharya Moodubelle, who led the team.
Inscriptions were found in Bannadi Village which came under Vaddarse Panchayat from Brahmavar Taluk in the Udupi District.
The 18-line inscription was found carved on granite plaques 5 feet high and 2 feet wide.
It was found on agricultural land belonging to B Kusha Achara.
Shruthesh, who studied the inscription, said it was talking about the land provided by Barappa to the temple in Banahadi, which might be the old name for Bannadi Village.
Kishan Kumar Moodubelle and Praveen D Acharya Salramama helped in the field work.
Other inscriptions were found in Hebbarvolal, about 1 km from the first inscription place, in Bannadi Village.
This inscription was found under the guidance of Sa Krishnaiiah, Director of the Oriental Archive Research Center, Udupi; Raghavendra Shenoy, an English teacher at Indira Gandhi Housing School, Siddapura; and Shruthesh.
Shruthesh said the 4-foot wide inscription and this 2ft width was also engraved on granite.
“Rases themselves are too worn to read, with only a few letters seen.
This inscription has the above shivalda, with two cows and a man stands with a folded hand.
The inscription starts with ‘Sri Mathpandya Chakravarthi’.
Since then the inscription cannot be read, Based on letters, it can be ascertained that it was from the 12th century, “he said.
Naveen Kulal Padubelle and B Kushha Acharya helped in the field work.
