Nagpur: The Department of Fire and Emergency Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has declared 138 unsafe hospitals, while residents of 101 hospitals were asked to evacuate the building due to the lack of fire department arrangements in place.
The latest inspection was carried out in the city after 24 patients died of oxygen leaks at Nashik Hospital in April this year.
There are more than 600 hospitals in the city, known as the Central Indian medical center.
Of these, the department has so far been examined around 255 hospitals.
This means, about half of the hospital examined by fire extinguisher found insecure.
A senior firefighting official told Ti that the inspection of all hospitals had not ended.
“So far, we have checked 255 hospitals,” he said.
In accordance with the department, every hospital in the city must get a settlement certificate after receiving a certificate without objections.
The hospital, which did not comply with the steps of the fire department, was issued by the show that causes notice under Maharashtra prevention of fire and life safety measures, 2006.
Hospitals that do not take the steps of fire extinguishers needed are declared unsafe.
Of the 255 hospitals checked, 184 have obtained certificates without the first and 70 objections that have taken the final NOC.
However, only 40 hospitals obeyed the rules of fire fighting.
During inspection, the department found irregularities in 138 hospitals and notifications had been presented to the owners of these buildings.
They were asked to have firefighting equipment for the earliest.
Even after this, only 39 of 255 hospitals comply with fire extinguishing steps suggested by the department.
After the hospital failed to comply with the notification, the department asked the residents of 101 buildings to be evacuated.
Simultaneously, the department told the MSEDCL and NMC water work department to disconnect the power and water to 32 hospital buildings.
City police assistance was also sought in two cases to empty unsafe buildings.
Likewise, complaints have been submitted against the owner of three hospitals for ignoring firefighters.
This inspection also revealed that 63 hospitals functioned without getting their structural map sanctions.
The fire department has also provided a list of hospitals to the city planning department for further action.
It was also found that only 37 hospitals had a fire audit carried out in their respective companies.
