Madurai: Thirsteen-century stone inscriptions relating to the Pandiya period which was later found near the Dilapidated Siva Temple in Pothanathi, a village near T.
Kallupatti in Madurai.
The message talked about the land contribution made to the temple, identified as Thiruvalavudaya Sivi Temple, to ensure that the lamp (Sandhya Deepam) continued to burn in it.
The discovery of the stone was delivered by President Panica Vinayaga Moorhi to the coordinator of Pandiya Nadadu Panouatu Maiyam D Muneesaran.
The two of them together with the Mineleswaran team including Anandha Kumaran and Karupasamy examined the inscriptions they expected belonging to the first Maravarman Sundarapandiyan period (1216-1239 m).
Muneswaran said that a tribal head named Pothhan had ruled the area under Sengudi Naadu on the banks of the causika river and was under the control of Madhavela Nuturur.
Siva Temple, near Board Oorani, has a sanctum sanctum tower and mandap in front but is badly damaged.
