New Delhi: Fourteen people were arrested from Cross Assam because of the alleged social media post that supported the takeover of the Afghan Taliban, police said on Saturday.
The arrests were carried out since Friday night and they have been ordered under various parts of the violation of the law (prevention), acting and CRPC, said a senior police officer.
GP Singh, Special DGP, Police Assam was quoted by Ani, “Police Assam has arrested 14 people to post social media regarding Taliban activities that have attracted land legal provisions.” People are advised to be careful in posts or likes, etc., on the social media platform to avoid punishment, he added.
Police are alert and monitor social media for inflammation posts, other officers said.
Two people were arrested from Metropolitan Kumrup, Barpeta, Dhubri and Karimgan District, police said.
One person each arrested from Darrang, Cachar, Hailakadi, southern Salmara, destination district and Hojai, they said.
