Hyderabad: Telangana on Wednesday reported 14 new cases Omicron took the calculation of the overall new variant case to 38.
Four other passengers who landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad during the day was also tested positive for Covid-19 in the RT-PCR test done at the airport.
Their sample has now been sent for genome sequencing.
Of the 14 new cases, two passengers came from England, categorized as ‘risky’ nation.
Only 6 cases of omicrons from risky countries, the majority of positive cases are medical tourists, officials said.
Interestingly, only six passengers coming from ‘risky’ countries have been tested positively for the new Omicron variant Covid-19, from 9,381 passengers who have landed at the airport for the last 22 days.
While 31 passengers from two random samples from passengers from ‘non-risk’ have been tested positively.
Over the past 22 days, nearly 27,000 international passengers have landed at Hyderabad Airport.
“If there are 31 cases from only 2 percent of random samples from ‘non-risk’ countries, perhaps the reason for serious problems.
This shows that no country can be counted as a non-risk state again.
The department is therefore thinking for Testing all passengers regardless of the country where they came from, “said a senior health department official.
A doctor, who is the first contact of Omicron patients, was positively tested on Tuesday, making it the first local transmission case in the state.
There were three other cases recorded on Tuesday, while 12 cases were recorded on December 18.
Omicron’s positive case is recorded in the country so far from Kenya, Somalia, England, UAE, Ghana, Tanzania and Qatar.
