BEHAMPUR: A 14-year-old boy from Tripura, who was rescued by Berhampur MLA Bikram Kumar Panda from Bada Bazar area in Silk City 10 days ago, went missing from the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here two days ago.
The matter came to light after the director of Dibyajyoti, an open shelter home where he was kept, lodged an FIR with the BNPur police station here on Wednesday.
Police said search was on to trace the boy.
Suspecting him of having run away from home, MLA Panda had rescued him from a roadside in the bazaar area when he saw him eating there alone on June 14.
He was then handed over to NGO Childline for further course of action.
“He was admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital immediately after being rescued,” Sai Prasad Samal, coordinator, Childline, said.
After being discharged from the hospital, he was produced before the district child welfare committee.
On its direction, he was kept in the shelter home, Dibyajyoti, near Lanjipalli on June 19.
During his stay there, his health condition further deteriorated.
So he was sent to the medical college on June 22 by the shelter home employees with permission from the DCWC, Samal said.
“The boy went missing while his caretaker had gone to make a few photo copies of his documents to produce them in the medical college,” Meenakhi, director of the shelter home, said.
