NEW DELHI: More than 15 million jobs were lost through May, although the metropolitan joblessness rate reach 18 percent from the week ending May 30, the greatest in the previous year, statistics from the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) has revealed.
“Employment dropped from 390.8 million in April 2021 about 375.5 million May 2021.
This translates into a reduction of 15.3 million projects, or even a 3.9% drop in employment on the month,” Mahesh Vyas, MD and CEO of CMIE, composed on its site.
“May 2021 can also be the fourth successive month of a drop in labour.
The cumulative drop in labour as January 2021 has been 25.3 million.
Employment at January 2021 has been 400.7 million.
This has fallen to 375.5 million,” explained Vyas.
He explained April and May 2021 seen a specially serious fall in labour.
“They account for 22.7 million of those 25.3 million job losses in the previous four weeks.

During both of these months, India seen lockdowns of varying levels for various durations in various regions.
It was a stage of disruption in economic pursuits which has been bound to signify in labour,” explained Vyas.
He explained the CMIE’s consumer ministry family survey revealed that the effect during both of these months, especially in May 2021 had been intense about daily wage employees.
The lunar unemployment rate in the week ending May 30 was 9.6 percent, lower compared to 13.5percent at the weekending May 23.
