Coimbatore: Corporation Revenue Officer Corporation Coimbatore on Wednesday closed 15 stores for non-lease payments to the Civic Agency for several years now.
The maturity rental of 15 stores is Rs 17 Lakh put together.
A team led by the Assistant Commissioner (Revenue) Senthilkumar Rathinam closed the shops in the corporate complex located on Jalan Temple Thottarayan based on the command from the corporate commissioner King Gopal Sunkara.
There are 63 stores in the complex.
Officials said shop owners had not paid rent for more than seven years now.
When the Civic body official approached them for payment in recent months, they quoted a Pandemic Covid-19 as a reason.
An official said that shops would be opened as soon as the shop owner paid the number of rent until March 31, 2020.
