15,000 drinking water connections that will be given before the year ends

Coimbatore: City Corporation plans to provide 15,000 drinking water connections before the end of the year under the 24/7 drinking water scheme.

The Civic body has signed an agreement with the French company Suez in 2018 to supply all the time to drink 60 wards in the old city.
1.5 1.5 lakh connections need to be replaced with a new meter and pipe at a cost of Rs 2,975 Crore.
As an agreement, the company must complete the project in 2023 and carry out operations and maintenance for 21 years.
When the project competed against the time of completion, officials worked overtime to meet deadlines.
“We’ve been behind the schedule.
Now, we have to provide 30,000 connections.
But we can only give 15,000 connections at the end of this year,” an official said with the project team.
The pandemic situation and change guards in the state government stopped the progress of the project, the official said.
