Nagpur: The city recorded a total of almost 40% of the surge in the number of deaths registered with the birth and death of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) registration department (NMC) in 2021 compared to 2019, pre-pandemic year.
There were 40,479 deaths in 2021, perhaps the highest ever recorded in the year in the city limits, as per official from the department.
In 2020 it has recorded 31,651 deaths, especially because of the high number of fatalities during the first Covid wave in September and October.
The highest number of death certificates issued in April and May 2021 when the second wave peaked in the district.
As per Data Data Health Office, 2389 Covid Death occurred in April 2021 and 1514 in May.
As data per NMC, 15,383 deaths due to various factors registered in April and May 2021 put together.
This is around 75% more than the number of official Covid victims for two months.
Until now, 10,319 people, including 6,028 from the city of Nagpur, has given up Covid-19 in the Nagpur district.
Between 2016 and 2020, an average of 28,815 deaths occur every year in the city.
Registration of the monthly average death because all causes have been around 2,500 for all months, not including April and May 2021.
There were around 3,900 fatalities due to Covid-19 in April and May 2021, and there may be 2,500 routine deaths in each of them month.
The total fatalities may include people from other rural nagpur, other districts and countries that die during care in the city and are cremated here.
However, around 6,400 deaths within the NMC limit cannot be explained.
NMC officials said that data from 2016 was useful because it was uploaded on the central government portal.
“Records before the 2016 annual mortality rate shows the city at 50% of birth rates.
So, most maybe 2021 has the highest death ever, “the official said.
The official added that many died not necessarily citizens of the city but died here during Covid.
“For the help of RS50,000 given to Covid victims’ families, we get the application where the death of the house mentioned, but they have a positive RT-PCR report,” the official said.
The official explained that the claims had Covid death mentioned at the Death Certificate but the lack of RT-PCR reports was rejected.
“The cause of death is only valid if it is certified by the hospital or if supported by documentary evidence.
The cause mentioned at the copy of Ghat is not accepted because it is based on oral submission.
Also, there is no provision for the cause of mentioning death in the death certificate.
So, it’s hard to say how much of 6,400 deaths is because of Covid, “the official said.
