NAVI MUMBAI: The Indian Coast shield group has rescued 16 team members onboard a freight container after it began sinking at the mid-sea approximately 2 nautical miles out of Revdanda jack in Raigad district Thursday at approximately 12 noon.
While three team members were rescued utilizing the coast guard boat, the 13 other team members were rescued with two aquariums since the rough sea and heavy rains generated barriers for the boat to perform rescue operations.
Captain CJ Lepande, Regional Port officer of Maharashtra Maritime Board advised the rescue operation was completed successfully in one hour long.
The freight vessel MV Mangalam has been surfing from Mumbai towards Revdanda vent to supply the freight to JSW business.
The freight vessel began sinking because of water ingress likely after the boat’s front end becoming ruined after being struck by submerged huge stone.
Therefore, the boat’s leading end has gone beneath the sea water whereas the back end could be found over the surface”
