Patna / Sitamarhi: At least 16 people were arrested until Sunday night because they were allegedly attacking the police team in Gauri under the Nanpur police station in Sitamarhi district on Saturday night during the Pancrayat poll declaration.
More than 100 others, including the newly elected Mukhiya, still avoided arrest.
Sho from the Nanpur Police Station Ezaz Kaushar said the assistant sub-inspector R P Yadav and three additional police personnel were specifically attacked by supporters of Yogendra Mandal, which was declared the winner for Mukhiya’s position.
Mandal has been contested from Gauri Panchayat in Nanpur.
He took a victory procession along with 150 supporters.
When police personnel tried to stop the procession for violating the command of the State Election Commission, they were attacked and pursued.
