16 years after recognition, GCET criteria can relax to fill the engineering chair

Panaji: Since 2005, the Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET) has become an important criterion in the country to determine the achievements to enter the engineering chair.
But for three years now, nearly 50% of seats in private engineering colleges in the state have been empty after the revenue round.
Now, the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) has proposed to the state government that the GCET criteria must relax for 2021-22 when filling empty seats after the second recognition round.
It feels better to sit down to be filled than to let more than 400 empty just because GCET insists.
Engineers’ chairs have increased in the state in 2019-20 to accommodate quotas for economically weaker parts (EWS).
Since then, between 350 and 550 chairs every year, mostly in four private engineering colleges in Goa.
“This year, at the end of the first entrance round in Goa, around 300 empty engineering seats.
But this number is expected to rise further, because acceptance to institutions such as nits today, and students can provide state seats if they get a slot in one of the national institutions , “said a state official.
The second round of engineering revenues is expected between 14 and 24 November.
However, this depends on the acceptance schedule for medical chairs and dentistry, which is currently awaited by the state of the central government.
“At the end of the second half, the empty chair will be allowed to be claimed by students who have not answered GCET.
Students must pass the XII class from the council recognized with the subject of physics, chemistry, mathematics with a minimum of 45% sign.
This is a feasibility criterion even now.
GCET is held to determine services.
But instead of allowing hundreds of seats for gocot, interested students who have not answered GCET will be allowed to claim slots, “said an official.
There are around 1,600 engineering engineering seats available in Goa, where the country’s managed chair in Goa Engineering College becomes full in the first reception round.
The remaining 1,150 seats in private colleges saw a collective vacancy nearly 50% at the end of two rounds of reception.
“Until now, DTE allows acceptance to take place without gcet only if the seat is left empty in private universities, and the campus is looking for relaxation to fill it with a management quota.
Such chairs are filled at the college level itself.
But this year, DTE will do receipt For the first time without gcet, but after all GCET candidates who were interested in fatigue at the end of the second round of recognition, “the official said.
Last year, four revenues were held, and only at the end of the receipt process were students permitted to claim seats without gcet, which did not help much, and colleges collectively remaining with 550 vacancies.
