Moscow: The Ministry of Health Kazakhstan said on Sunday that 164 people have been killed in protests that have shaken the country during the past week.
The numbers reported in the state news channel Khabar-24 were a significant increase from the previous calculation.
It is not clear whether death only refers to civilians or if the death of law enforcement is entered.
Most of the deaths – 103 – are in Almaty, the largest city in the country, according to the ministry.
The State Ombudswoman for the rights of children said that three of them were killed were minors, including a 4 year old girl.
The previous ministry reported more than 2,200 people seeking treatment for injury, and the Interior Ministry said about 1,300 security officers were injured.
President Kazakhstan’s office said that around 5,800 people were detained by the police during protests.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said on Sunday that the order had stabilized and that the authorities had regained control of the administrative building occupied by the protesters.
The President’s Office also said that troops from Russian-led military alliances were maintaining the main facilities.
The Russian TV station Mir-24 said that sporadic shots were heard in Almaty on Sunday.
