Chennai: At least 17 antique idols made of Panchaloha and wood, and Thanjavur’s paintings were found from a failed person in Mylapore on Wednesday.
Based on certain tips, the Cid Wing Idola police team restored antiques hidden in the bundle which was intended for courier to the United States.
No one has so far claimed the ownership of this idol, said Idol Wing Cid Police Inspector R Ponni.
Overcoming the media, the officer said, the failure and commercial complex at Radhakrishnan Salai owned by one Rajagopalan, who is now in the US.
The restored items include Rama, Lakshmana, Sita, Hanuman, and Krishna idols, and six Naradha wood idols, two Dwarapalakas, Nandi, Krishna, and a dancing female statue, apart from five Thanjavur paintings.
Police Cid Wing Idol received a tip from the courier agent that the idols and paintings Thanbavur was stored in failed near the commercial complex and police conducted a surprise and recovering antiques.
An Indian Archaeological Survey Team (ASI) visited the place and checked and confirmed that this was antiques.
However, they have taken some idols to know their age.
Meanwhile, Idol Wing Cid officials have sent idol photos and restored antiques to officials of the Hindu & Charity Department Department to circulate among the temple authorities.
It was to check whether this idol was reported missing from one of their temples, the police had planned to call the owner of the Rajagopalan building to find out how the antiques arrived there.
Further investigation is active.
