NOIDA: Jewellers from town have begun working on receiving their previous gold decoration stock hallmarked because the Union government has given them period before August 31 to finish all pending replicas of jewellery.
However, Noida has only one hallmarking center and 172 jewellers, where a 100 having an yearly turnover of Rs 40 lakh need to experience the compulsory procedure.
Gautam Buddh Nagar is one of the 256 areas of India, in which hallmarking of jewelry according to the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) was made compulsory from the Union customer affairs ministry to make certain consumers become guaranteed grade.
“Noida contains 172 jewellers, of which less than 30 have trademark enrollment.
The procedure for procuring a license is straightforward — one might need to enroll on www.bis.gov.in, that demands a charge of Rs 6,700, then get one old gold inventory hallmarked in a registered center.
The standards will weed out unscrupulous practices,” Sudhir Singhal, a jeweller located in Noida’s Sector 18, told TOI.
“But, there’s a whole lot of work for people who have an older inventory of non-hallmarked jewelry as they’ve only around two weeks to have it done.
There’s just a solitary BIS-authorised hallmarking center in Noida.
It’s also dangerous to transport enormous quantities of jewellery into other cities to find hallmarking done.
Noida ought to have one centre,” said Rajinder Verma, yet another jeweller.
As stated by Sushil Jain, the creator of the India Jewellers and Goldsmith Federation (AIJGF), some other part of jewellery that weighs over two gms need to have a trademark of innocence.
“The rule is appropriate for any jeweller having a turnover of more than 40 lakh.” India is currently the second-largest user of gold on earth based on the World Gold Council.
