New Delhi: A total of 1,773 foreigners were given Indian citizenship in 2021, the highest in the last five years, the Ministry of the House told Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
MOS (Houses) Nityanand Rai, in return for a question, said that a total of 4,844 foreigners were given Indian citizenship between 2017 and 2021, in which 36% were made by Indians in 2021.
In comparison, 639 foreigners were given Indian citizenship in 2020 , 987 in 2019, 628 in 2018 and 817 in 2017.
Under the citizenship law, 195, Indian citizenship can be given to foreigners who qualify with registration based on Part 5, with naturalization under region 7.
